MELAGRANA HOUSE
Casa Melagrana was built in the post-war period using strictly the 0 km materials not for an eco-sustainable choice but for the objective difficulties in transporting the materials: the mules and donkeys in this area were the only means available for transportation.
It is a detached house on three sides, of about 100 square meters, and each side (north, east and west) has its own relevance of green with its own pergola that, in effect, in the hot season (which lasts from April in October) become real usable spaces.
In Seccheto, already in Roman times, the beautiful granite that is found from the mountains to the beaches was used to make great works in the capital. Even the peasants of the area have always used this beautiful comfortable material as well as the chestnut beams that came from Mount Capanne and with which they made the roof, beams that in the dismantling and rebuilding of the roof were then reused in various corners of the house.
During the renovation, the roof had to be completely renewed, creating two very pleasant sleeping galleries (soppalco).
NORTH: The interior layout was completely revised and a large open kitchen area was created. The living room (with its own little bathroom) opens onto the garden and pergola on the north side and – around the corner – with access to the veranda on the east side. Under the north pergola, it has a second outdoor kitchenette with sink and induction hobs and a large table for al fresco dining. Also a small garden with deck chairs, barbecue and the outdoor shower.
WEST: On the west side (OVEST), with its own entrance, a large room with a double bed and a sleeping gallery was created. This room has its own bathroom and direct access to the west pergola (pergola OVEST) . Here the sunlight catches in the afternoon and at the same time a hundred-year-old vine and the “cannicciato” (reed cover) provide a perfect, light-flooded shade in summer. Under the pergola is a large table made of old fir beams where eight people can eat, some on comfortable wooden stools, others on a bench carved out of granite.
EAST: To the east (EST) there are two small interconnecting rooms: the larger with double bed and bathroom with shower, in the smaller one a study with sofa bed (120 cm wide) was created. Both rooms are connected to the east veranda (veranda EST) by a door.

LOCATION
Casa Melagrana is located at the top of SECCHETO, 300 meters from the sandy beach. It can be reached on foot, crossing the ancient paths of the old town of Seccheto, a delightful seaside resort, located on the west coast of Elba, also known as Costa del Sole (Costa del Sole).
The village is surrounded by hills and many interesting routes for lovers of trekking and mountain biking start from here.
Going down towards the sea, there is a small port with an area for the shelter of small boats in a natural inlet. The port is protected by a cliff and is accessible from a square, reachable by car
Seccheto beach, 150 meters long, is a beach of light sand that extends on the sides in comfortable cliffs, also for bathing. It is located between Cavoli and Fetovaia and together they constitute one of the areas of the island with the most fascinating beaches.
Seccheto is also famous for its natural pools: ancient granite quarries on the sea level today form small pools that are filled with the water of the sea with the movement of the waves.
The rich granite deposits in the area were exploited since Roman imperial times until the period of Pisan domination (10th century).
